T-Tapp Retreat at the Belleview Biltmore Resort

Day 1 Thursday, March 9, 2000
Twenty-five women gathered from all parts of the country at the Historic Belleview Biltmore Resort and Spa for the T-Tapp retreat held on March 9-12, 2000. Although we were all of different ages and fitness levels, we came together with a common goal, to gain personalized guidance on our fitness and nutrition program from Teresa Tapp.
I arrived in sunny Clearwater, Florida and spent the afternoon exploring the resort. That evening, we had the first get together of our retreat. This was the first time meeting Teresa in person. I immediately felt at ease with her as she greeted each of us. After everyone had arrived, she had us introduce ourselves and tell a little about our experiences using the T-Tapp program. It was an enjoyable evening spent chatting, and getting to know each other. Many of us found that we struggle with many of the same issues when getting into shape. We parted company that night very excited to get started on the weekend ahead.
The highlight of the evening was receiving a goodie bag from Teresa filled with T-Tapp aromatherapy and beauty product samples. I was thrilled to see a generous sample of the T-Tapp Pyruvyl-Glycine spray! Teresa states that "you can help your body maintain lower glucose levels with the Pyruvyl-Glycine spray. Pyruvyl-Glycine is the amino acid version of pyruvate and also contains L-Carnitine and HCA which helps boost the body during muscle activity to burn glycogen and fat. The HCA stimulates the body's citric acid cycle and helps the body process carbs rather than convert them to fat. She sometimes calls it "The Carbohydrate Cheat Spray" because it stimulates muscle tissue to burn glucose even without exercise. Teresa goes on to say "when I have higher carbohydrate consumption days (like during the holidays), I just make sure to spray 12-16 spritzes during the day. And when you combine Pyruvyl-Glycine with exercise, it works even better, so spray before, during and after your workout."
Day 2 Friday, March 10, 2000
Friday started with a 7:30 a.m. workout. It was a real treat attending live sessions with Teresa. She has a sharp eye and would call out our names during the class, correcting our form. As with all of our workouts over the weekend, Teresa would start with her trademark Primary Back Stretch and continue through various standing exercises. She would then hit the floor for floorwork that focused on abs, hips and thighs.
Teresa explains that "her techniques are so comprehensive because she never works just one muscle group at a time (compound muscle movement)."
Another component that I have always appreciated about the T-Tapp workouts are the focus on balance and core stability. Her Balance Sequence, as well as her trademark Thread the Needle movements, have helped my balance tremendously. These 2 components are what make her technique so effective in boosting metabolism. Teresa shares that "the secret to creating a higher metabolic rate with T-Tapp is to establish greater "neuro-kinetic" flow and increase internal muscle mass (a.k.a.: the "balance muscles)". The best way to increase metabolism is to increase muscle mass and develop "complete" muscle density - not just the "belly" of muscle tissue. Most exercise movements (both aerobic and weight bearing) use one insertion of the muscle and its "belly", exercise movements used in the T-Tapp program always involve both insertions. The T-Tapp program also works many muscle groups at a time. For instance in the arm sequences, not only are biceps working, but the triceps, shoulder and lat muscles are also involved (i.e. "comprehensive" development).
Teresa goes on to explain that "most people understand that muscle mass decreases as we age (thus lowering calorie consumption requirements), but don't realize that muscles atrophy quicker from the inside out. One's internal muscle mass (especially the spinal insertions) lose their density faster because these muscles aren't worked comprehensively in regular exercise programs and/or in daily activity. Best of all, dense internal muscle tissue has a higher resting rate of glucose utilization. Therefore, with any muscle movement, your fat burning will be much higher and any type of exercise will be more effective.
