So what exactly can the T-Tapp workout do for you?

According to the guidelines of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, you want a program that will help you maintain good cardiovascular health, muscle tone, and some flexibility. The T-Tapp workout addresses all three components, and with a few slight modifications almost all of the T-Tapp movements can be used up until delivery. Stephanie did Hoe Downs and Thread the Needles right up until the day she delivered (do not forget to view Stephanie's pictures and watch her shrink). Like any other type of workout program you want to do what is comfortable and listen to your body. (**Please note that after the third month, you should not do any exercise program lying in a flat or supine position. An easy way to correct or accommodate for this is to put a pillow under the shoulders or roll a towel up and place it beneath your shoulder, slightly elevating them off the ground). If T-Tapp twists become harder to do, try not going down as far. On balance you may need to use a broom handle to hold steady. The beauty of the T-Tapp workout is that you can modify it to your growing body's needs and still work your body comprehensively.

The benefits of exercising moderately while pregnant far outweigh staying sedentary during pregnancy, unless otherwise medically contraindicated. Women that exercise while pregnant have been shown to experience less of the normal discomforts of pregnancy and in fact have been shown to handle labor more easily. When exercising regularly during pregnancy, women minimize the decrease of their cardiovascular conditioning, and in addition maintain muscle tone, while minimizing excessive fat gains. Exercise also helps in a quicker return to your pre pregnant shape, so the benefits of exercising regularly throughout pregnancy far outweigh staying sedentary.

Remember the goal in pregnancy is to stay in shape; you are training for labor, not a marathon. With the ease and flexibility of the T-Tapp workout, it becomes an ideal choice as an exercise program that can be done all throughout one's pregnancy. As the body changes, hormones fluctuate and energy levels wane, the workout can be modified to fit your needs. If you are currently pregnant and T-Tapping, stick with it. Feel free to e-mail us any questions or concerns and we will do our best to address them here. If you are thinking of beginning an exercise program and just found out that you are pregnant, the T-Tapp workout is a good choice. When not sure, always check with your Health Care provider first, move at your own speed, and only do what feels comfortable. Remember, you aren't in a competition for anything but, just trying to stay healthy while pregnant for you and your baby.
