60 Day Challenge
Winner: More to Lose Category

Sharlyn Bertrand

My T-Tapp adventure began in January of this year. I am an avid reader of the Woman’s World magazine and hardly ever miss an issue. I am so thankful that I did not miss the article that featured Teresa Tapp, because truly for me my life changed because of reading that magazine.

I began exercising faithfully with Walk Away the Pounds in August of 2003 and modified my eating habits and was losing weight. But as has happened in the past, I got bored with the exercise regimen.

While reading the Woman’s World magazine I read where I could lose inches in a short time doing T-Tapp. Well I have never been one to back away from an exercise challenge so I thought what do I have to lose? I began to do these exercises from the magazine. But first let me explain my process. I am such a visual person that I went to the store, purchased poster boards and broke down each exercise on the poster boards, cut out the pictures and taped then up with the explanation, so that I would not miss anything because I knew right away that form was going to play a major role in inch loss. My family thought I was nuts with my new wall art, but I kept going. I visited the website and printed all of those try before you buys, and yes, more new wall art for me! Within a couple of days I told my daughter that I felt like I was wearing a “girdle” and knew that I had to get the tapes.

I purchased the tapes and realized right away that although I was giving it my best effort from the printed version, I had a lot to learn by viewing and listening to the form tips. I must be honest that when I saw the exercises it was very intimidating and I had to start very slow. After I had the tapes a couple of weeks I decided I wanted to try a bootcamp. After surviving a 14-day bootcamp I lost 16 ½ inches, yes even after measuring 5 times to make sure I was correct, it was a done deal for me. This is something I want to continue to do for the rest of my life.

A little history about my past dieting experience
I was always going to lose that 100 pounds after January 1st. Oh did I say January 1st? I meant by my birthday in June. Oh June, well that sure came quick this year. How about by Christmas I will fit into that red dress again. Is Christmas here already? I can’t possibly diet with all this great food and parties. Yes, this has been my cycle for at least 20 years. I was able to lose a lot of weight each time and put it back on so quick I know that my body did not have time to recover from either experience.

My new awakening about eating healthy and exercise
When I started this recent weight loss adventure in August of 2003, I weighed in at 245 pounds and in a size 22 and wondering if there was a size 24 that I would soon need to be buying. I am only 5’1” so I was really struggling with all of this excess weight. I was having difficulty just getting up the stairs to my house.

It was a slow process but after all that dieting for so many years, I knew that my metabolism would repair itself in its own time, and I knew that I had to do something. I loosely began to follow Weight Watchers plan and using the walking tape.

It was not until January of 2004 (after reading the Woman’s World) though that the real changes began to happen. The first tape I purchased from TTAPP was Step Away the Inches because I thought; well I am walking already so I can just add this tape to my routine. As I watched the instructional to Step Away the Inches I knew that I could never go back to the other walking program. Forget about it! I have purchased a lot of tapes since then and use them 6 days a week and my family knows that this is one of the top priorities in my life now. I am very blessed to have a very supportive family and they know that when T-Tapp’s a playing, stay away until it’s done!

I was so excited when I heard about the contest. I thought, this is for me because I knew I would be doing it anyway so why not the added incentive. Unfortunately I was unable to exercise for two full weeks due to a spider bite and a cellulose infection on the same foot! I was unable to put any weight on the foot for at least a week and it was located on the “outside edge of the foot”. I need that outside edge to T-Tapp!

Eating Routine
I am loosely following Weight Watchers. By that I mean that I use the point system to assist me with healthy food choices and portion control. I do not eat any fast food and try to limit my packaged foods to a minimum. As long as I have a variety of healthy food choices to make in my refrigerator, I am usually not tempted. My biggest motivator is to get my exercising done in the morning so that when I am tempted during the day, I think back to that hour long workout that I have just put in and it usually helps to guide me to making better food choices. That is really what it is all about for me.

Weight Loss/Inch Loss Success
As mentioned before, I started out at a weight of 245. I do not own a scale so I do not monitor my progress with a scale. I did have a doctor’s appointment in June of this year. Of course they had to weigh me first. When the readout was 180 I was shocked… for two reasons. How can I weigh 180 and be in a size 14? When I used to weigh 180 I was in at least a size 16/18. Oh yeah…T-Tapp! OK I will take the size 14 (almost a 12 now) and the 180 (or whatever it is by now)? Yeah, I’ll take that too! My goal was to be in a 10, but I think now since I am so short, my new goal should be an 8. Although I have lost weight before, once I got to a 14 for some reason, I would quit and balloon back up to the plus sizes again. I have been at a size 14 for a couple of months now, so for me, knowing that I am going to continue on to goal is a whole new wonderful life changing experience for me. The inch loss has slowed down somewhat, but I have plans to change my workout with the addition of Weighted Shoe Workout, Step It To The Max, Tempo Arms, and Tempo Intermediate. I have no immediate plans to change my diet at this point and have added T-Tapp as a permanent part of my life.

Thank you Teresa and the entire T-Tapp team.
