Essay:  I have never exercised much because I have never enjoyed exercising. I didn’t play in sports in school because I wasn’t good at them. As a child, I had asthma, and back then they didn’t have the wonderful treatments they do now. I couldn’t run, because I’d run out of breath. So, my entire life experience was based upon what I couldn’t do when it came to exercise. As an adult I would try various things, but, again, they were not enjoyable and it is hard to keep doing what is not enjoyable. I settled for walking because I love to walk and hike, but, it the bad weather months I became dormant.

Then Cushing’s Disease struck. I was sick for many years before finally being diagnosed and having the surgery that saved my life. Before my surgery, I was in a wheel chair, too week to walk or do basic tasks. I became a prisoner in my own home. Gratefully, I found my life saving physician and surgeon and have been in remission for several years now. But what to do with the excess weight and inches I had gained because of Cushing’s? And how to exercise with the associated problems caused by Cushing’s : Hasimoto’s Disease and Hypothyroidism?

When T-Tapp was introduced to me by Dr. Karen on her T-Tapp for Cushies page, I was intrigued. I saw photos of Karen and other Cushie’s who had incorporated T-Tapp into their lives. I saw them lose the inches and become stronger and healthier. These were people like me, who had struggled through and overcome Cushing’s. I thought, if they could do it, so could I! I began, at their suggestion, with the More DVD. It was slow at first. My body was not used to exerting the energy and I struggled to complete the full set. Then came the 60-day Challenge. Again, I thought, I can do this! So, I added Uptown Hoe Downs and Happy Hoe Downs to the More routines. I talked with some of the ladies I work with and told them all about T-Tapp. I suggested we all do it together, during the work day, and now every work day at 10 am and 2 pm , three of us do T-Tapp in the office! They love it! My co-workers especially love the broom workouts so, I am going to have to invest in that DVD next! Sometimes we just do hoe downs but we have also added Step Away the Inches and Basic Work Out. We may do only 5 minutes or sometimes we do all 25 minutes. But, the important thing is, we do them. We move.

About a month into the challenge my thyroid crashed. I developed what is called Reverse T3 and struggled to even make it through half a day at work without having to come home and crash. My Dr. adjusted my meds which made my heart rate sky rocket, so I struggled to do any T-Tapp for several weeks. When I was able to start back, I had to take baby steps and just do partial routines. My meds started regulating and I was doing well. We were doing Step Away the Inches at least 4 times a week. And, then, I got the flu! These past two weeks I’ve not been able to do any T-Tapp and I have missed it.
T-Tapp has taught me several things. Most importantly for me is that I can do this and I enjoy it! Yes, I can! Secondly, the scale doesn’t matter as much as the inches and feeling better. I haven’t lost a lot of inches, but, I lost! I even needed to get some new clothes because my pants were too big. My health goes back and forth which is a challenge as I try to add T-Tapp into my daily routine. But, I will keep doing it and keep trying because I love how it makes me feel. I love how fun it is even though I am working hard and I love how doing T-Tapp at work has unified the three of us at work to support each other through the work outs. I love everything about T-Tapp and am so grateful to Theresa Tapp for creating these exercises and finally giving me exercises I can do and can enjoy.
