Essay: This has been by far the hardest challenge I have entered. I have been a T-tapper for fifteen years or longer, and have entered other challenges. Since the last challenge, I have discovered that I have Hashimotos thyroiditis, and have also gained nearly 80 pounds. The combination of the two had caused me to pretty much decide I could no longer exercise as I felt too badly. It is a hopeless feeling to seemingly have no control over your body, no matter how much diet or exercise you’ve done, and the temptation is to just give up entirely. After much encouragement from my daughter I decided to enter this year’s challenge mostly to just get moving again. At the same time, Renee McLaughlin sent out an e-mail offering free form tips which I realized I needed as it had been many years since I had gone back to the basics with my workouts. I decided to do Basic Workout Plus so I could make it through a workout, and was faithful to do this six days a week. However, I really wasn’t seeing more than minimal results. I did begin to make it through the workout without being totally exhausted so felt that was improvement in itself. When I was able to find time to watch the videos Renee had put up slowing down the workout and reviewing form, I began incorporating it in my workout. After not losing anything the first 2 weeks, I did see a minimal loss over the next few weeks. The past two weeks I’ve taken advantage of an offer from Renee to take part in classes she is coaching. I have been doing the online classes with Basic Workout Plus slowed even more, and having someone to remind me when I’m not doing it correctly has been amazing. I feel so much better, and I have lost more than before. I am able to see my stomach shrinking, and am remembering to keep my torso tall throughout the day which is also reinforcing what I’m doing in the workouts. I would love to win the challenge and have an opportunity to go to the retreat as this has long been a wish of mine. However, this year, I feel as though I have won by just being able to move again. Although I still have a long way to go as far as weight and inch loss, having more energy and losing what I have has been amazing.
