Essay: I love T-Tapp! I am so thankful for this exercise program and all its many, many benefits. I continue to be amazed at how doing so little can help so much! T-Tapp has been part of my life for 3 years now, and one of the biggest benefits to me is the increased flexibility it gives me. Flexibility is a huge deal to me at 54! In the past, I have had my lower lumbar (L5) twist and make my back go out several times. I have torn my plantar fascia in my left foot, and had numerous aches and pains in my knees and hips. T-Tapp has made a world of difference in my quality of life! I feel younger than I did 10 years ago because I have less pain overall. To be able to bend over and pick something up off the floor or squat in my garden picking weeds with little to no pain is such a blessing!
For this challenge, I decided to focus on a target area that always seems to cause me frustration, my stomach. I’m a combo, so losing inches and pant sizes doesn’t come easy as it is, but my belly always seems to make changing pant sizes almost impossible. I’m always looking for tops that come down low enough to cover it, and I always seem to be conscious of how my stomach looks. So I decided to be more intentional about doing exercises that would try to shrink it.
For the first 3 weeks I alternated between a standing routine one day and a floor routine the next, taking 1 day off a week. On the days I did a standing routine, I also did OIP and Half Frogs. For the standing routines I did one week of Healthy Hormones, one week of Step Away the Inches, and one week of Turn Back Time Standing. For the floor routines, I alternated between Turn Back Time Floor and BBFF. On week 4 I decided to do a boot camp and did 7 days straight of TBT Floor. (I LOVE that routine!) Throughout the challenge time, the exercises of TBT floor became easier to understand, and I could tell my ab muscles were getting stronger and stronger.
Week 5 I did two standing workouts back to back and also took one of Trainer Margaret Barry’s classes (She is the BEST!). By the end of that week, I was sick with a cold. I think I had at least 1 week where I did no T-Tapp at all and the last week or so I spread out a few workouts on the floor.
Getting sick was discouraging to me because it was the third time this winter I had been sick. And the second time I had been sick after working really hard with T-Tapp. I was already struggling to stay enthused because I wasn’t really seeing many results with inch loss. (I didn’t know for sure if I was losing inches because I make it a practice only to measure before and after, knowing I can get way too obsessed with numbers.) But I could tell my pants weren’t getting any looser, in spite of all my hard work.
I shared this with Margaret and then Trisch Richardson sent out an email about how easy it is to over do it, exactly what Margaret had said, too. I realized that I was just doing too much for my body. Again, this is a testimony really to the effectiveness of T-Tapp when you can benefit from doing less rather than doing more!
Margaret offered to measure us before and after the Challenge, so when I got to her house the day of the final measuring, I was really discouraged. But when she measured, we found that I had lost 13.25 inches. That’s not huge for 60 days, but I’ll take it!! I’m always, always happy with a loss instead of a gain!! And I had lost 2 of those inches in my abs! To know that I hadn’t lost any pant sizes and had been derailed somewhat by sickness and i STILL lost inches, that’s encouraging to me. And it’s a good lesson for me that I need to listen to my body and do less, not more. I love Trisch’s last email she sent out about what to do after the Challenge. Her scheduling ideas are just what I need!
Having this exercise program is such a blessing to me!!! I can’t ever say thank you enough! It is a program I feel like I can stick with for the rest of my life, knowing that it will benefit me even as I keep aging. The T-Tapp community keeps me motivated, encouraged, and inspired. Many blessings to you, Teresa, for all you have done and continue to do to keep us going.
